What Christian arists have had the most influence on you? I started listening to Christian Rock in the late 80's. I would have to say that bands like Petra, Mylon and Broken Heart, Whiteheart,  and David and the Giants really inspired me to want to be involved with Christian music.

What's your favorite Bible Verse? Romans 8:28

What inspires and motivates you?  My kids motivate me. They drive me to be an example and inspire me to leave behind something that they will be proud of one day. Being around people that enjoy life also motivates me.  I feed off of the energy and positive attitudes of others. I'm also motivated when I know that I can help someone else achieve something.

Who's your current favorite Christian artist? It's hard to choose just one.  I really like Third Day, especially the older stuff.  I also like Kutless, Jeremy Camp, and Todd Agnew.

Who's your all-time favorite Christian artist? Mylon Lefevre and Broken Heart. They were one of the pioneers of Christian Rock and had the guts and the faith to weather all of the opposition that bands like us don't have to face today.

What are your hobbies? I'm a real computer geek. I love doing computer stuff.  The band website keeps me very busy. Other than that, I try to spend as much time that I can with my family. I love playing video games with my two boys and spending time in their sports like Little League baseball and youth football.

What's your favorite Fast Food Meal? Milo's Cheeseburgers with grilled onions and a sweet tea.

What's your favorite movie of all time? Airplane

What's your favorite TV show of all time? Seinfeld.

What's in your CD Player right now? Third Day (the school bus one),

Favorite sport team? University of Alabama Football

Describe the other Floodgate members in two sentences or less.

Scott - The leader, the glue that holds Floodgate together. His faith is genuine and I consider him one of my best friends.

Kelly- The most kind-hearted, honest,  and dependable person that I know. He's the type that everyone loves to get along with.

Taz- What an incredible guitarist! He's probably the pickiest eater that I've ever met. (ask him about Meatballs in a cup <grin>) but he is rock-solid in his walk with Christ and sold out completely to the ministry. He has an incredible testimony.

Jason- he's the funny man.  He keeps us in stitches every time that we are together. There's never a dull moment with Jason around.

How has being a part of Floodgate affected your life?

I consider myself a very mediocre drummer. Somehow, I've ended up playing with some incredible musicians and being a part of an awesome ministry.  Floodgate has challenged me musically and spiritually.  Each week brings a new challenge.  I can't imagine going through life without the guys always there to support me and challenge me to become a better drummer and to become a stronger Christian.  Being a part of Floodgate has helped me realize my calling in life and has helped to build the passion that I have for what I do.

More from Kerry:

My Testimony

I consider myself rather fortunate. I was raised in a Christian home with wonderful Christian parents. We attended church every time the church doors were open. At one time I held the church's attendance record of 10 years of Sunday School attendance without missing a Sunday. This is not of my own merit but rather the merit of my parents who were dedicated to raising me in a Christian environment. I accepted Christ and was baptized at a very young age. Later in my teenage years, I drifted away from my Christian responsibilities, as many teenagers do. However, I always knew that Christ had never left me even though I may have left Him. As I reached the age of 22, I began to feel the calling in my life to do something for Christ. I had played drums for many years in junior high school and in high school and the hunger to play drums had never left during my college years. My love for contemporary Christian music, or "christian rock" as it was called then, was just beginning. I had found something special in the bands like Petra, Whiteheart, Mylon and Broken Heart, and David and the Giants. I began to realize that being a Christian isn't only about hymns and gospel music. Being a Christian is about worship and evangelism. I found that I could worship God in a way that I enjoyed and that I could share Christ with others through that same music. Christian music played an incredible role in my development as a Christian. 1990 was a very special year in my life. God placed me into a friendship with a man named John Beavers. John was an incredible guitarist and devoted Christian who had played many places and even toured the country as a guitarist. I bought a set of drums and began to play around with John and learn more about playing. This began to create the passion for playing the drums that I have now.  At this same time, God introduced me to the most beautiful girl in the world, Stacie. Stacie and I began our journey together at this time. She knew of my growing passion to play drums and yet she stayed with me! <grin>. John and I formed a band, called the Foundation Band. We never got very far. We played many local gigs and cut a demo tape. Stacie and I were married in 1991 and soon thereafter the Foundation Band decided to call it quits. Everyone was so busy with their personal lives that it just didn't seem to be the right time to have a band. I was disappointed. I had developed such a hunger to play drums that it left a void in my heart when I couldn't play. After a few months of hoping that another opportunity would come along, I gave up. I sold my drums. "It doesn't matter", I thought. I had a wife who loved me and a marriage to which I should devote myself. I didn't need to play the drums. Stacie and I continued along happily in our marriage but I still felt a void in my life. Sure, we went to church most Sundays. I cannot say that Christ was a priority in my life, though. Attending church was more out of habit. My walk as a Christian had become very weak, almost non-existent.

In 1994, Jordan, my first son was born. Wow! I was a DAD! It was the most incredible experience. The joy and love that I felt was incredible. I wanted to do this right. I wanted to make sure that I was the best father and husband that I could be. I recommitted myself to being a Christian and to loving my wife and new child. In 1996, Peyton, my second son was born. I was a proud father AGAIN. Life was good! Over the next couple of years, I continued a life committed to my family. I worked the daily 8-5 routine. However, I was becoming complacent again in my Christian walk. Over the next three years, I had slipped back into a life that had placed God on the backburners. I had slowly let sin creep into my life. It was at this time that Satan unleashed an attack upon my life that was unlike any that I had ever experienced. I had moved so far away from God that I had no defense. The sin in my life almost destroyed everything that I had built over the past 5 years. It was at this time that I realized that if I didn't have Christ, my family, and my children, then I didn't have anything and that I didn't have a reason to live. This "wake-up call" was God's way of bringing me back to Him. I recommitted my life to Him and to my family. The void was still there, however. I knew that I was supposed to be doing something for Him. I began working in my church in the Audio/Video area helping to produce the video and audio ministries of the church. It was very fulfilling to be working within the church, however, I could still feel the calling that I need to be doing something else. In 1999, Scott Smith and Kelly Perrin had formed a small praise and worship band. I watched from the control room as they played for the first time at our church. I knew, at that very moment, that I wanted to be involved in their ministry. I prayed hard that night. Before I knew it, Scott approached and asked if I was interested in playing the drums for them. It was an easy answer.

Since then, my life has been complete. My spiritual life has been taken to a new level. I'm more in love with my wife and children than ever before. It doesn't seem that life can get much better. I have found my calling. I know that I'm right where God wants me to be. There no other place that I would rather be!
